OUR BURN PERMIT SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY BEING DEVELOPED




HOW IT WORKS

Complete the Burn Permit application online. Once you complete your application click on "Submit Application" and the application will be sent to the County of Newell Administration for processing. A digitally signed copy of your burn permit will be sent to the e-mail address provided at time of application. All burn permits are invalid until digitally signed by the County of Newell No. 4. Allow 1 business day to process.

NOTE No permits are processed on the weekends



THINGS TO REMEMBER

The Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act of Alberta list some items which are classed as Prohibited Debris which cannot be burned unless authorization from Alberta Environment has been granted to you in the form of a permit. Otherwise these items must be recycled or properly disposed of at a licenced facility.

“Prohibited Debris means any inflammable waste that when burned, may result in the release to the atmosphere of dense smoke, offensive odours or toxic substances and includes but is not limited to:
1. animal manure;
2. tires;
3. rubber or plastic or anything coated in rubber or plastic;
4. used oil;
5. wood or wood products containing substances for the purpose of preserving wood;

As a matter of information the penalties include fines up to $100,000.00 and up to 2 years in prison.



You must have a burn permit on your person when you conduct your burn. It may be requested by the fire department if they are called to the scene.

Always notify your local fire department prior to burning.

Have a supply of water on hand at the burning site.

NEVER burn after dark.

NEVER leave your fire un-attended.



COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS

The County of Newell Online Self Permit System uses a PDF form and as such you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer in order to use this system. You can download the latest version here.
